Poem in Your Pocket

This year for the culminating event for Poetry Month we celebrated Poem in Your Pocket Day. Students carried poems of all kinds with them as they went through their school day and shared them with special readers who were “all ears”.  Each poem read earned them a ticket for a drawing for poetic prizes like journals, books, and art supplies. After a month of poetry reading and writing our Poetry Patrol were delighted to hear all kinds of poems. pugapipselpoem fpiyp

camping out in the library

We held a special Camp Read event this month to celebrate reading and to give students time to relax in the great outdoors…in the library. We read a few books and listened to some great camping background noise as we settled down around the fire, under the tree, or in the tent. Books that were most popular included Maisy Goes Camping and Danny and the Dinosaur Go to Camp. Making some cupcakes in a campfire style seems like the next thing we should all do!

Just add some red hots, pretzels, and candy corn to build a little campfire you can eat!

snowflakes in the library

We had an extended snowflake unit this winter that included a biography of Wilson Bentley, the snowflake man, and studying the science and structure of snowflakes. Each student and faculty member was invited to create their own flake and help us decorate the library with them! Every flake had the name of the person who made it and the title of a good book they recommended.
