talk like a pirate day 2024
This was my first International Talk Like a Pirate Day at a new school library, and we tried to prepare all week leading up to give everyone a chance to hear plenty of pirate fun before 9.19. It seemed to help everyone join in on the pirate vernacular. We used the Pirate themed bitmoji room I have used for years, with a few new titles added. I folded what felt like a 100 paper pirate hats, and stapled hundreds more for yet another hat style.
We hung pirate flags and challenged the staff to dress as a pirate for TLAP Day, with the winners earning book fair credit from our upcoming Book Fair. The coloring mural I drew was finally ready to hang the day before TLAP Day, so it made a nice photo backdrop. I sure am glad I keep that pirate hat in storage, but I had to buy new pirate teeth and I can’t find my hand hook! Can’t wait for next year’s version!

donut day bitroom and coloring celebration
There are a couple of days folks celebrate donuts in the US, but any day is a better day with donuts as far I am concerned! This year we observed Donut Day on November 5th. I made this donut bitroom library to celebrate with some great books and links. Then we had to color a bit, too! You can click the bitroom image and use FILE, make a copy to edit this donutfest! Scroll down to see our donut-inspired coloring break mural posted in the hallway at our elementary campus.
