Summer reading goals

My summer reading goals are to find new books I love while rereading a few favorites…that’s it. Sometimes I set a number goal for myself for the year, but this summer I have enjoyed reading paper and electronic books just for the fun of it because isn’t that a reward in itself? Here are some titles that I’ve read so far from our district libraries, some are adult fiction and some are available on Overdrive.  If you are a student or staff member who needs help logging into overdrive please email me!

My favorite author would be hard to pinpoint, but Sir Terry Pratchett is definitely in the top five. I love his sense of humor, witty commentary, and the Amazing Discworld Multiverse he created. This summer I am reading a few of his novels I missed including Guards, Guards.  I’ve carried three paperback books around by Pratchett to have something to read wherever I go this month. We have lots of Pratchett in the district including his amazing Tiffany Aching series.

Upcycling old book illustrations

Cutting up old books seems almost a crime, but if they’ve been really well worn out and you can escape the guilt, they make some lovely decorations. We have quite a few things planned for some vintage books I’ve collected lately, but I chose some of the boys’ favorites for the blocks we had painted in fun colors already. I decoupaged some of the most colorful characters or favorite bits of two different books so far…now we are looking for the right book for the next few blocks. These came from a 1980’s edition of Dumbo and Danny and the Dinosaur. I used a mix of school glue and water to affix the pictures, then used a matte clear sealant spray for longer wear.img_0769img_0765

Summer send off, reading goals met

The library appreciates all of the readers who completed their hourly reading goals this year to earn tickets for summer fun at amusement parks. We made summer sunglasses, chalked the walk in front of the school, and treated ourselves to a few snacks. We hope the summer warm up carries them to their next reading goals and the public library’s summer reading programs.
